In House Teams - Helpful Hints

Game times at the K- 1st and 2nd - 3rd grade levels are typically an hour. In order to maximize the experience for our youngest players, please consider the following:

  1. Have Line-ups ready before each game. Know who is playing where each inning on defense.
    Defensive Position by Inning
    Double Header Defensive position

  2.  Bat your players in order by number. The players, over time, will learn the batting order and be ready when their turn comes.

  3. When your team is batting, have 4-5 balls available to pitch. Pitch them all without waiting for the catcher to return the ball. After all the balls have been thrown, place the ball on the tee to hit.

  4. Have parents help coach bases, get players into the right defensive position, and helmets on when batting.

  5. During practice utilize assistant coaches to set up multiple stations to work on different skills and split into small groups; this will avoid all the girls waiting around while one hits, fields, etc.

Using these hints will allow your team to play three innings in the hour provided instead of just two. It will also cut down on the amount of time your team “stands around” on defense, especially on hot summer days!
